Dogs Need a Job!
Whether a companion dog, or a working or sport dog, they need to have their job understood and to be held accountable for it. In their natural state , dogs hold each other accountable for living to the standards of the pack. The same holds true for your dog as well.
In the world of a Companion dog, their main job is to keep you company, but their over all mental state to be able to do that job effectively, has to be well balanced and understand basic obedience. Without that, they typically present behavior issues such as Barking, Resource Guarding, Door Escaping, Shaking when new people come around, Health issues when any part of their world is altered or changed such as colitis.
In the world of a Working/Sport dog, their main job is to perform the specific task or command. Without having solid structure, their ability to follow through with commands, and tasks is very unpredictable, potentially non-existent simply because there is no structure and accountability in place for them to live up to, similar to what they experience in their placement in a pack.
ONE OF THE BIGGEST mistakes dog owners make, is forgetting that their Dog is a DOG, not a human, and providing it with the structure it so desperately needs.
If you let them run aimlessly like a 2 year old exploring the world with no boundaries being set, you are setting them up for failure, You are setting your dog up for failure and creating stress for your dog in the end.
In my Board and Trains we specifically work on restructuring the dogs everyday to help their owners with specific issues. The training involves LOTS of love and care as an owner so greatly wants to give their dogs, we just change the mindset of when, how and where that love and attention is given to help shape the dogs over all state of mind and behavior.
Many think “STRUCTURE” means its not fun and lets be real for a moment, some parts of it are more rigid but that have to be to become effective in the end. On the other side, the FUN parts, are REALLY FUN and filled with LOVE and JOY!
